It constantly surprises Sean but I am a big Sade fan. Truthfully, musically it’s not my usual milieu (in as much as I have one), but it does fit my habit of liking the top 10% of every genre. Sade is by far the best at what she does. Plus, she is also given to saying things like this:

I only make records when I feel I have something to say. I’m not interested in releasing music just for the sake of selling something. Sade is not a brand.

New album Soldier of Love is out February 9th. The title track has been floating around for a few weeks. I quite like it – it almost sounds like a Bond theme.

Cowboy Bebop

I finally got around to checking out famed anime series Cowboy Bebop. The animation is amazing, the stories less so. It only took a few episodes before I grew bored with it, with the notable exception of the opening credits. I could watch this on loop all day long.

Caught this via The Awl: Director Jason Reitman is keeping a video diary of his promo tour for Up In The Air, which apparently consists of illustrating the mundane day to day PR duties with hilarious juxtaposition of sameness and awesome tracks by The Clash.

My friend Colter put together a video for the Spiraling song “The Future.” I dig retro-futurism so this is right up my alley to begin with, and lyrics like “Modern life is much too hard/With no jet packs or flying cars” just seal the deal. Bonus points for the authentic Mad Men-esque look of the woman.

Orba Squara “The Trouble With Flying” Video

These travelogue videos are fast becoming my favorite thing to watch. I already mentioned the Telekinesis one and now here’s Orba Squara with a hypnotic video to match their sweetly hypnotic song “The Trouble With Flying.”

Per the email I received, it’s “made from thousands of photos from a 10-day bus run from NYC to Portland, OR.” They neglected to mention it’s also made of awesomeness.
