Bayou Coeur

Someday in the future, archaeologists will sift through our digital remains to try and piece together what life in the 2000′s was all about. For their benefit I’d just like to say, on the record, that, despite what it may appear, all of us were not concerned solely with cheap pharmaceuticals and the size of our manhood.

What I enjoy most in Bridges And Blinking Lights‘s song “Undercover” is how many ideas they have running around. It seems like every 30 seconds they throw in something that’d be worth a song itself, moving from solid idea to solid idea. For some bands, there are enough musical ideas here for a 60 minute album. For Bridges And Blinking Lights, it’s a 5 minute song. Cool.

If this were the 60′s, Gigi would be ruling the world right now. As much a proponent as I am of bands pushing music forward, there’s something to be said for those who can step back so flawlessly. I mean, there are bands from the 60′s who still can’t capture its sound as well as this. Sometimes nostalgia can be a distinct pleasure.

This White Hinterland track is fabulous. Usually when I write about songs there’s one or two things happening in each that I can point to as catching my ear. With “Icarus” I love everything about it. If I had to pick one aspect it’d be that little vocal riff sprinkled throughout but, man, I’d go to the mat for any part of this song.
