General Items On The Agenda

Just a general wrap up of things I will and will not be talking about this week.

What I Will Be Talking About
1. This cool Band of Skulls rehearsal footage Sean posted. I’m fascinated by it. Why? For one thing, the camera work is better on this than 90% of the videos I’ve seen in the past 6 months. For two thing, it’s nice to see a band doing professional tasks like rehearsing – for all the “access” we get with artists these days, there are still hours of work and nose-to-the-grindstone stuff we don’t see. It’s not romantic, but it’s why they’re a good band.

2. Flickchart. It should be outlawed as an addictive substance.

3. The “awkward” Sonic Youth interview. Matson didn’t even know he was doing the interview until right before it happened. As someone who’s done several interviews with bands, I can appreciate the need to fall back on “cliche” questions at times. Besides, it wasn’t that bad, all things considered.

Also, bonus points for Thurston for being so cool at the end when a lady mentions she named her son after him. Usually he comes off rather cold and snobbish so it was nice to see a bit of heart.

And I really enjoy The Eternal.

4. How the new Super Furry Animals song “Mountain” sounds like an awesome Depeche Mode song. Which is meant as a compliment to both bands.

Blitzen Trapper

5. This Blitzen Trapper song. Rightly or wrongly, I threw Furr aside pretty quickly – this reminds me there are some tracks worth coming back to.

Things I Will Not Be Talking About

Raveonettes

1. The new Raveonettes track “Suicide.” I know this opinion pretty much blacklists me from the music blogosphere but I just cannot get into the Raveonettes.

MP3: Raveonettes – Suicide

Japandroids

2. The new Japandroids album “Post-Nothing.” Is it lo-fi or just badly mixed? And if there’s no hooks, does it matter?

MP3: Japandroids – Young Hearts Spark Fire

Stream it here.

Fruit Bats

3. The new Fruit Bats track The Ruminant Band. Where have I heard that guitar riff before?

  1. …but you did you just talk about those things. :P
